Sen. Paul Introduces Coal, Power Plant Bills
US Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was in the Tri-State on Wednesday to introduce bills he said will help the state’s coal industry and power plants.
The senator spoke to Rotary Club members at the Owensboro Country Club Wednesday afternoon.
He introduced two bills last week, which stop the Environmental Protection Agency’s new source reviews of power plants if energy providers want to modify power plants even if emissions aren’t increasing.
Sen. Paul said they will protect the state’s coal jobs.
“I think many people will tell you they believe that regulations are actually more damaging than taxes on the economy right now, that the burden of regulations dollar-wise is bigger — particularly on the coal industry,” said Sen. Paul.
The National Mining Association said the bills are a return to common sense, adding current permit process disincentivizes companies from making changes.
